LINDSAY HUGHES
Counselling, Psychotherapy and Supervision MNCPS (Accred)
Counselling
Many of us will experience anxiety, depression and other problems at some
point in our lives. And much of the time, the help of family or friends will be enough to get us through. Sometimes, however, the difficulties persist, causing stress and unhappiness at home and at work. If you're at this stage, then counselling may be the best way forward
My Approach
I am trained in a number of different approaches and these approaches inform the course of the therapy. Primarily, we work together on what you bring to the sessions and I am led by you, helping you not only to make sense of your thoughts and feelings but also to equip you with the tools to move forward. This is called person centred. Other approaches include:

Psychodynamic - this is when we work with past experiences which have led to current discomfort, unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. This could be negative childhood events and experiences which have led to unhelpful thoughts and coping strategies or challenging . I can help you make sense of thoughts and feelings, and understand how these might be sabotaging or impacting on your current life.
CBT (cognitive behavioural technique) - is based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, what we do, and how our bodies feel, are all connected. If we change one of these, we can alter all the others. CBT helps to notice patterns of problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so you can feel better.
Free 15 min consultation
This is a chance for us to have a chat and discuss what it is that is troubling you and establish if how i work will be helpful for you. I will ask about family history and what you would like from therapy.

About the sessions
Once we have agreed to work with each other we will meet weekly and each session will last 50 mins. Sessions will be roughly at the same time on the same day or this can be flexible each week to work around your schedule.

Walk and Talk Counselling (Eco-Therapy) - I am a trained eco-therapist, meaning that I use the outdoors as a way of helping you connect with your thoughts and feelings. Our sessions are in a park or woodland whilst walking and are the same length of time than in a therapy room. Have a read of my blog to find out more.
